Cardiovascular exercise is the constant 30-40 minute exercise required for a healthy heart and to help weight loss. Cardio can be done twice a day, in most cases, for many days in a row. It is important when doing any exercise activity to consult your doctor first and if you become light headed while exercising you should stop immediately. There are sample exercise plans posted in the facility and I can usually answer any questions that may arise. I always recommend to start out very slow, sometimes only 10-15 min/day.
Circuit training is extremely beneficial when trying to lose weight. Many people try to walk everyday or ride a bike everyday, which is great exercise. However, if you incorporate full body strengthening, you will get much faster results. Circuit training should be done 2 to 3 days a week depending on the individual and never two days in a row. This does not mean you can only workout 2 to 3 times a week. This means you should only circuit train 2 to 3 times a week.
I have to emphasize this point. In laymen's terms, when you build or firm up muscle, you essentially tear down muscle fibers. These fibers then grow back stronger. You need to give these muscles an approximate 48 hour recovery time. If you train them to soon they never have time to rebuild which defeats the purpose of training them in the first place and can also lead to injury. However, cardiovascular exercise (walking, bicycles, ellipse machines, and etc.) can be done every day. We have basic programs posted in the facility for our members who are trying to lose weight. I am, also, usually on hand throughout the day to help members with questions.
